  1. Don't the east coastians call stripers rock fish? Actually, isn't Maryland's official state fish a rockfish aka striper? Or are the two completely different?

  2. Another name for striper is pimpfish. :D They are different, The Order Scorpaeniformes Sebastidae Gadus (order family genus) is a group of fish that reside in most of the oceans, on the east coast black sea bass fall into this category. There are over 100 species in the north Pacific alone. Out here they include cabazon, kelpcod, and lingcod in the limit, although they are not closely related.

  4. Brookfield, I thought the same thing when I read the post. I thought he was talking about striped bass. I always thought actual saltwater "rockfish" were poisonous.

    1. Rockfish have poisonous spines but the meat is awesome. Some also call red Rockfish (Vermillion) red snapper just to make things a little more confusing.

  5. Cool pictures! Those are some interesting looking fish. That first fish looks much different from the rest, is it the same species?
